〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Herr Klaus Helmut Starr
CHARACTER AGE: Late 40s/Early 50s
SERIES: Preacher
CHRONOLOGY: Episode 2x13, "The End of the Road." Right after Jesse takes off to help Tulip and he talks to Featherstone to tell them to cancel the ambulance.
CLASS: He's a hero in his own mind. But definitely a villain
HOUSING: Any public housing.

BACKGROUND: The Universe of Preacher is a lot like the modern universe of today and MoM both, with a twist. A twist of insanity -- particularly when it comes to the perceived notions of Christianity. God goes missing from Heaven shortly after this angel/demon hybrid of Genesis escapes and enters inside of a man named Jesse Custer, giving him the ability to speak "the word" and it will act as a command that anyone he directs it to will be compelled to obey. Wacky adventures ensue between Jesse, Tulip and their vampire friend Cassidy as they go on the search for God.

Of course, there are divisions of Christianity on Earth charged with the tasks of keeping order. And I don't mean different religions. I mean Grail Industries. One unit of this overall force happens to be the Samson unit -- a department that deals with eliminating false prophets and protecting the messiah. The current leader of that unit happens to be Herr Klaus Helmut Starr. And when he enters the story, it's initially to deal with Jesse Custer and Genesis by getting rid of him. Of course, when he tires of protecting a Messiah who cannot rule, he decides to change the rules up a bit and elevate Jesse to God status instead.

And there is a more in depth history here!
PERSONALITY: Herr Starr overall is a stoic, dangerous and sometimes ridiculous man. Some of the things he says can at times be outright absurd. But the fact that he can often get away with it no matter the situation is a testament to his commandeering personality. Within the Grail, very few question Herr Starr and that is simply because they fear him. And it's with good reason because he is very willing to do what it takes to get a job done -- including dismemberment and murder. During his training session when he was applying for his position with Grail Industries, he was on record saying he wants to build a world on absolute order and uncompromising discipline. And it becomes quickly clear he's willing to do anything to get there.

Starr is a man who rarely smiles. And he is not intentionally humorous. It's clear that he has stopped giving all fucks about censoring himself, and so he will say things that are shocking and often times ludicrous. But again, those who work directly with him tolerate it simply because they are intimidated. It's common knowledge with his employees that if Starr is displeased, he will roll out a tarp in his office and shoot them. At one point, after one of his employees named Hoover messes up, Hoover himself offers to roll out the tarp for his own execution.

Despite having a lot of authority, power, and fighting prowess, though, Herr Starr finds himself dissatisfied with the world as it is -- including his own job. He is charged with protecting a man who in his opinion can't rule, and while he goes through the motions, he doesn't necessarily believe in the cause. It's when he meets Jesse Custer that he starts to find his purpose. His missing puzzle piece so to speak. And this fills him with a passion and a drive that had otherwise been lacking, fueling a desire to see his goals come to fruition by replacing the current messiah with Jesse. With proper motivation, Starr proves he can be ambitious. And with his general ruthlessness, he proves to be a formidable force when achieving his goals. Though he may have met his match when it comes to Jesse.

Starr demonstrates a complete lack of empathy. This can first be seen in his introduction when he is tasked in the competition for his job to seduce a woman and instead of even attempting, he leans in and tells her if she doesn't give him what he needs he will kill her and her family. Later on, when his own man comes to him after Starr unveils his plan to have Jesse come to be the new figurehead of religion in order to say he thinks he's the wrong man for the job, Starr responds by telling him 'Yes, he is. But the smart one is busy so to get back to work.' Starr also has zero compassion when Tulip gets shot and Jesse runs off to her side, even going so far as to have his men cancel the ambulance -- likely figuring that if Tulip was out of the picture, Jesse would have no choice but to fall into his new role as a deity.

To sum it all up as neatly as possible: Herr Starr is a giant, stoic asshole.
POWER: Regeneration: Any and all injuries that he acquires in the MoMverse can be healed rapidly upon receiving them to leave behind no blemishes -- including minor cuts to complete dismemberment. When it comes to injuries he sustains from home following any subsequent canon updates, he will be able to regenerate loss of limbs, but it will leave behind nasty scarring -- thus why he's unable to restore the scarring around his blind eye to perfectly smooth skin.

Pain Transferal: Any injury Starr receives, he will be able to transfer the pain of it to any individual within his line of vision. This will not give them the wound, only the sensation of the pain surrounding it and completely relieve Starr of his discomfort.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[ When Herr Starr appears on the video, he looks completely exasperated and unimpressed by the whole ordeal. ]

My name is Herr Starr. It seems I, too, was inconveniently kidnapped and given dismal housing within this community.

[ He gives a sniff of disdain. ]

But since I am here, I suppose I should do something productive.

[ Opening up a notebook, he clicks a rather expensive looking pen into place and then sets the tip to the paper. ]

From my understanding, we have all come in with a wide variety of powers -- whether or not we had them back in our worlds. Whether there is a pattern to what newfound abilities we were given is yet to be determined. So, tell me.

[ He looks up, straight into the camera with a completely serious expression. ]

How many of you have the power to enlarge your genitals?
